Deschutes Brewery Hop Henge Experimental IPA – Whole Foods $5

HopHengeIPAlargeThose who know me, know that my strongest libation passion is for ale….IPA to be exact. I LOVE them…some more than others, but they are all like manna from heaven to me. I’m like a kid in a candy store staring at the craft beer section of any market. Drool…I am also quite aware that I have yet to post any recommendation for my beloved IPA’s. Well, that is changing today and I’m proud to share my love for a wonderful IPA from Deschutes Brewery that is certainly worthy of opening my Heads Up for Ales postings. I came upon this while staring at the 22 ouncers in Whole Foods. After hearing about my love affair with fresh-hoppy IPA’s, the department manager recommended that I try Hop Henge Experimental IPA from Deschutes Brewery. I was not disappointed. Thank you Jesus. This is a wonderful double/imperial-IPA combining 5 different varieties of hops and crystal, pale and carastan malts.

Right out of the glass it has a clear, bronze color with a beautiful white foamy head. It’s citrusy, floral with a well-balanced amount of caramel. The hops, oh, the hops are unapologetic and a force to reckon with. I know, I get a bit carried away with IPA’s.  The finish is bittersweet due to the well balance of the malt and hops. If you’re an IPA fan like me you owe it to yourself to take this one out for a test drive.

IPA Available Jan – Apr
Alc. 9.3% – IBUs 99
